About Dr. Alex Seife
Welcome.
If you’re here I imagine you may be feeling stuck or uncertain about how to move forward in your relationship. I’d like to help you take the next steps. My passion, training, and expertise is directly focused on helping couples create engaging and deeply satisfying relationships.
I practice Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT) with couples to improve their communication by identifying the ways in which they get stuck trying to resolve conflict, and to help them find ways of achieving greater emotional intimacy.
I am also a sex-positive, kink allied therapist. I have expertise in working with non-traditional relationship structures, including ethical non-monogamy, open relationships, and kink power exchanges.
I earned my doctorate from Long Island University – Post and my undergraduate degree from Vassar College. I completed my postdoctoral training at the William Alanson White Institute and Vienna Praxis. I completed my pre-doctoral training at Mount Sinai/Elmhurst Hospital. I have also held clinical positions at the The Family Health Center at NYU Langone, the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research (IPTAR), and the Long Island University Psychological Services Center.
In these settings I worked with culturally diverse individuals across the lifespan. My clinical expertise includes working with anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, pre-marital counseling, men’s issues, artistic stress, relationship issues, personality disorders, medical comorbidities, and interpersonal difficulties. I strive to maintain a culturally-informed framework and diverse practice, including individuals who identify as LGBTQIA and BIPOC.
